Husum to Cuxhaven

Husum turned out to be another delightful town. We came here Saturday and checked in to Camping Regenbogen - Rainbow - after a short stroll into town and some shopping.  Sunday we went to St Peter Ording which was a bit of a disappointment.

The town has several spas with thermal springs and seems to attract an afluent crowd with too much money and too much time to spend it. We never left the car but went straight back to Husum. This time we checked in to a 'Stellplatz' / parking lot camping in Husum itself. Jens went to the Shipping museum and then we had  dinner at a restaurant in the harbour. Will post photos as soon as we get a good Wifi connection.

This morning we did some last minute shopping - magazines, jeans (I forgot mine at home!) and a sweater - the wind makes it quite chilly.

Crossing the Elbe can be quite an ordeal. You either take a ferry which usually involves standing in line for at least an jour, or you take the tunnel in Hamburg which means bumper to bumper. We took the ferry.

And then started looking for a Stellplatz  The first one totally lacked anything in resemblance of a view. The second had the views but also loads of sheep nearby. The odour was quite pungent. The third is in the harbour of Cuxhaven. We have electricity but no fresh water and no showers. Oh well.

One of our goals with this trip is the German North Sea Coast, or more precisely, Ostfriesland and the Islands outside. Cuxhaven is where it begins.

The reason? The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers. More in next post!
The inner port of Husum is delightful, a bit of a tourist trap but not terribly much so.
Too many birds for my taste!
